We are seeking highly qualified and motivated applicants with a Ph.D. at the time of employment. The position is funded by the Agence National de Recherche (ANR) for two years and is available immediately (in any case not later that december 2008).

Our laboratory (Bringaud group, RMSB centre, Université Victor Segalen Bordeaux 2) studies the energy/intermediary metabolic network of the protozoan parasite Trypanosoma brucei, which is responsible of the sleeping sickness in Africa (disease transmitted by the tsetse fly vector). The appointee would be expected the analyse metabolic adaptations when the parasite is maintained in different growth conditions and during its differentiation from the mammalian stage to the insect stage.

This project will be developed in a multidisciplinary environment, in a group considered as international leader in metabolic analyses of protozoan parasites. The experimental approaches developed by this group, in the frame of the proposed project, include parasite culture and transfection, molecular biology (including protein analyses, plasmid constructions for RNA interference, knockout, etc) and metabolic analyses.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in molecular biology. Background on metabolism, cell biology and/or parasitology would be an advantage, though all candidates strongly motivated to advance fundamental knowledge of the subject will be considered. Good knowledge of English is required; Fluency in French is not required, though efforts to acquire it will be encouraged.
